I need to make an international payment to pay for a holiday apartment in croatia. Whats the best way?
I'm guessing you're booking privately, not through an agency. Agencies usually take credit cards too. I'd be wary if a private person asked for credit card though, cos usually they ask you to give them the number over the phone, and that's never wise.
Maybe the apartment owner will take Western Union money transfer?
With Western Union they get get cash, it arrives the next day and the charge would be £14 to transfer £100 to Croatia (I just checked online). That's a charge for you, they pay nothing. That's somewhat less than any bank swift transfer will cost.
You get confirmation when the money is collected, so you can't be ripped off.
You should just check on their website if there's a Western Union agent near the person you're sending the money to. There are quite a few agents in Croatia, though not so much in smaller towns.
You could also look and see if the apartment place accepts money from Global Collect. I know they do a lot of international credit card payment stuff.
Always use a credit card.......unless you know the people.
