You need to realise that McCann is a very, very common Irish Catholic surname. (I once went out with a McCann (no relation) in London.)

Many McCanns have settled in the UK over the past 200 years. In cities with a strong Irish connection such as London/Liverpool/Glasgow there will be 100s or 1000's of McCanns in the phone book. Irish Catholics are known for having large extended families. Lots of cousins, aunts uncles etc.
I don't know if there is a family connection, but so what? I've rented holiday cottages from distant relatives, friends or friends of friends. It's not uncommon for people to do this.
