You mentioned South Bombay (I prefer Bombay to Mumbai).
If not, please be prepared for a cultural shock, with the noise and dirt and many other things, you take for granted, in Europe and the USA/Canada.
The best time of the year to visit Bombay is is October to Feb.
Depends on your budget. Decent accommodation in South Bombay is very expensive .I am not discouraging you, I am just giving basic information.
People in Bombay are quite friendly and helpful. But there are a number of touts and hotels,who can make your life miserable.
